Small Claims Court & Other Courts
The Small Claims Court is part of the District Court and assesses cases for claims less than EUR1,270. Contact the Small Claims Registrar where you will get an application form and pay a fee of EUR9. A Solicitor is not required. There are 23 District Courts assessing cases up to a value of EUR6,348. Talk to your Solicitor or to the Clerk of the Court for further information. Circuit Courts are split between eight geographical areas where cases are heard by a travelling judge for values up to EUR38,092. Contact the County Registrar for further information. The High Court can award unlimited damages in civil cases and appeals on its decisions can be made to the Supreme Court and, on issues of interpretation of any EU law, matters can be referred to the Court of Justice of the European communities.
